Mission
To cultivate and amplify the arts and creative practice in every area of the university– teaching, research, student life and community engagement; to advance the arts in our role as a Land Grant Institution* for the citizens of our multifarious communities in Illinois and beyond; to champion the impact of the arts on knowledge production in our region and the full breadth of the university’s reach.
*We acknowledge that Land Grant institutions are founded on the dispossession of Native land. We engage our respective communities in consideration of the histories of forced labor, meanings, and implications of land grant as it relates to the work we do, support and promote.
For Students
Every student will have a creative experience and/or practice opportunity. Artistic engagement will be provided through the curriculum, research opportunities, performances, shows, and interactive workshops both on and off campus.
For Employees
Faculty, administrators, and staff will have support services, access to collaboration opportunities with artists on campus and broader professional fields, advancing creative ways to process, think through, and view their research and scholarship.
For Community
Members of the campus and greater Champaign-Urbana and central Illinois communities will have opportunities to enhance their creative engagement through everything from attending performances of professional artists to creating art together.
Our Methods
We will identify opportunities to embed the arts in research, teaching, student life, and community engagement.
We will facilitate faculty collaborations and support the presentation and engagement of artists on and off campus.
We will provide funding opportunities and offer best practices information for creative collaborations.
We will advocate and stimulate creative practice as we amplify the arts across our communities.
