To cultivate and amplify the arts and creative practice in every area of the university– teaching, research, student life and community engagement; to advance the arts in our role as a Land Grant Institution* for the citizens of our multifarious communities in Illinois and beyond; to champion the impact of the arts on knowledge production in our region and the full breadth of the university’s reach.
*We acknowledge that Land Grant institutions are founded on the dispossession of Native land. We engage our respective communities in consideration of the histories of forced labor, meanings, and implications of land grant as it relates to the work we do, support and promote.

Artistic Practice
is Often Collaborative.
It employs holistic approaches to understanding systems and the relationships between and among each component. When artists and scholars collaborate, they bring their discipline-specific research processes and practices to the table. By working together, challenges and opportunities are seen through new lenses, the work of each is elevated, and the ground for innovation is cultivated. When we catalyze different ways of thinking, of understanding complexity, of creating, of visualizing, of problem solving, we collectively build more compassionate and just communities.
